Bobcats Sweep Blizzard

September 27, 2008 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Bismarck Bobcats News Release

The Bismarck Bobcats swept the Alexandria Blizzard in a pair of North American Hockey League (NAHL) battles this weekend. The Bobcats took the opener Friday night by a score of 4-1 and defeated the Blizzard in a close contest 2-1 on Saturday. The wins move the Bobcats into first place in the NAHL central division with 7 points and a 3-2-1 record.

Friday, the Bobcats and Blizzard came out a little slow in the first period as the nerves needed to settle a bit. But in the second period the Cats were all over the Blizzard scoring three goals in an eleven minute stretch. Cody Keefer scored first for the Bobcats on an even strength goal before Nick Jensen score two power play goals within three minutes of each other leading to a 3-0 score after two. The Blizzard put a little snow on the parade with a goal at the twelve minute mark of the third but the Bobcats were not to be denied, with Keefer scoring his sixth goal of the season at 18:47 of the third period leading to the final 4-1 score.

Saturday was a tightly contested game with great goaltending for both teams. Ryan Leets made some great saves and stopped 32 of 34 shots on the evening for the Blizzard. Dave Bosner, was one stop better however as he stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced on the evening. The game ended in dramatic fashion when Jeff Harris scored a goal with 43 seconds remaining in the game on assists by his brother Kevin and Casey Kleisinger, who played with two chipped teeth and a nice set of stitches after taking an incidental stick to the face on Friday night.

The Bobcats will face North Iowa, last year's division regular season champs on their home ice. The Outlaws have an uncanny winning streak against the Bobcats winning an unbelievable 19 consecutive games. The Bobcats will be looking to shoot the outlaws down next weekend and put an end to that ugly streak. The game starts Friday at the VFW at 7:30 with a rematch on Saturday starting at 7:00.

Bobcat Hockey! It a whole new game!
