Bismarck Bobcats News Release

ABERDEEN, SD -- The Bismarck Bobcats overcame a third period deficit but could not complete the comeback against the Aberdeen Wings, dropping a 2-1 shootout decision Saturday at Odde Ice Center.

Trailing 1-0 after two periods, the Bobcats battled the game back to level with 7:58 to go in regulation as Matt Anders popped in a Joe Giordano rebound for a 1-1 score.

For Anders, a first-year player our of Lafayette, Colo., it is his fourth straight game with a goal.

"Our guys were out there working hard and finally got rewarded," stated Bobcats assistant coach Jim Peluso, who was the acting head coach Saturday with the absence of both Layne Sedevie and Garrett Roth. "We didn't have a lot of 'puck luck' [Saturday] so it was a credit to our guys to work hard enough to overcome that."

The Bobcats held off a late-regulation charge by the Wings and forced overtime, their fourth game featuring an extra session out of their last six.

In overtime, the Bobcats carried the pace of play, outshooting the Wings 4-0 and hemming Aberdeen in their own zone for the final two-plus minutes of bonus hockey but could not break through, sending the game to the decisive shootout.

Only Bobcat blueliner Nate Repensky was able to solve Wings netminder Zach Nagelvoort in the shootout, while Peter Krieger and Colton Kramer beat Bobcat goalie Bryan Nies to deliver Aberdeen a 2-1 victory.

Krieger also tallied the Wings' only regulation goal, posting the home side to a 1-0 lead with 13:18 to go in the second period.

Giordano had what appeared to be a goal waved off in the first period when the referees ruled that his attempt went in while the net was off.

Nies finished with 26 saves but suffered the overtime loss--his first defeat in his last five starts. Nagelvoort picked up his second win since coming to Aberdeen in a deadline deal with the Soo Eagles behind 28 stops.

The Bobcats' three-game road trip rolls on Friday as they open a two-game set against the first-place Austin Bruins with a 7:05 PM square-off at Riverside Arena.

Friday's top-two clash will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide on the official internet television partner of the NAHL, FASTHockey. Pregame coverage gets under way at 6:40 PM.
