Soo Uses Shootout to Best Port Huron, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Soo Eagles defeated the Port Huron Fighting Falcons in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Port Huron got a shootout goal from Vito Aluia. In addition to the clincher, Soo got a shootout goal from Sean Murphy.

The Eagles put 40 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.2 they average per game.

Soo was helped by Matt Menta, who grabbed one goal. Menta scored 16:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Soo. Brandon Adams provided the assist. Soo also got a goal from Murphy as well. In addition, Soo received assists from Robin Hoglund and Jared VanWormer, who contributed one a piece.

The Eagles were unable to stop the Fighting Falcons from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Huron eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

The Fighting Falcons were helped by Dan Dupell, who tallied one goal. Dupell scored 21 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Huron. Rick DeRosa assisted on the tally. Tyler Spezia also scored for Port Huron. Other players who recorded assists for Port Huron were David Parrottino and Matthew Uvodich, who each chipped in one.

Skoog Paige rejected 42 shots on goal for Soo. The Eagles incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Alex Blankenburg made 37 saves for Port Huron on 39 shots. The Fighting Falcons incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
