Bobcats Face Division Leader Saturday Night

December 19, 2008 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Bismarck Bobcats News Release

The Bismarck Bobcats (16-10-1, 33 points) host the Central Division leading Alexandria Blizzard (17-9-2, 36 points) Saturday night. Though the Blizzard lead the division, the Bobcats have won all four meeting this season between the two rivals. Bismarck and Alexandria meet for the fifth time on the season and the third encounter in the V.F.W. Sports Center.

The Bobcats are coming off a two week break from playing games and have enjoyed some much needed rest and relaxation. Some players have been sick and nursing minor injuries, while others have needed some time to regroup. Nonetheless, the Bobcats will end the first-half of the season with a winning road record20(11-6 away from Bismarck).

"We have played a lot away from home in the first part of the season and did outstanding," said Head Coach of the Bobcats Byron Pool. "Now, we need to win one game before Christmas and get back after the break and establish success in front of our fans."

Alexandria leads the North American Hockey League with the best powerplay percentage (19.88%). On the other hand, the Bobcats powerplay is also among the best in the NAHL, which stands in fourth (17.69%).

"This will be a great game between two teams in our division," Coach Pool said. "Both teams need the win and we would like to send six guys to the Top Prospects game in January."

If the Bobcats beat the Blizzard Saturday they will be in first place (based on winning percentage) and get to send six players to the Top Prospects Tournament, which will be held January 18-20, 2009 at the Ice Cube in Ann Arbor, Michigan. If Alexandria wins, the Blizzard will get to send the six players and the Bobcats would likely finish third in the Central Division and are only allowed to send three players.

The Bobcats play Saturday, December 20th against the Alexandria Blizzard at home in the V.F.W. Sports Center. Order your tickets online http://tickets.bismarckbobcats.com or call (701)-222-3300.
