U.S. Nat'l U18 Team Falls to N. Dakota, 5-2

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Kevin Lynch (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and A.J. Treais (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) each tallied as the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the University of North Dakota, 5-2, here tonight at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Evan Trupp put the Fighting Sioux ahead early with a goal 6:10 into the first period. Lynch answered back for Team USA at 9:59 when he put the puck past netminder Brad Eidsness for an unassisted marker. North Dakota retook the lead just 1:04 later off the stick of Brad Malone. Treais answered back for Team USA at 16:19 to make it 2-2.

In the second stanza, Matt Watkins beat goaltender Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) after he took a feed from from Trupp on a 2-on-1 rush for a shorthanded goal give the Sioux a 3-2 advantage.

Jason Gregoire doubled the North Dakota lead at 5:57 of the third frame after he picked up a rebound and put it into the open net. With just 50 seconds to play in the period, Andrew Kozek recorded an empty-net goal to seal the 5-2 victory for the Fighting Sioux.

Murray made 37 saves on the night including 17 in the second period.
