Bismarck Bobcats News Release

Watch for Bismarck Bobcat Hockey players at an elementary school near you in the coming month. These young men will be reading with students at various schools in our city during February, which is designated as Reading Month. Teachers or librarians who wish to sign up for this interaction with the players should contact Elizabeth in the Bobcat office: 222-3300.

This activity is one of the ways these athletes encourage students and help our community advocate education. They have presented their Healthy Habits Program to entire elementary schools, as well as meeting with a number of the BLAST groups which provide child care in the schools after school hours. Several Bobcats have spent an evening with students at the Miller Elementary Family Reading Night and reading with children at the Bismarck Public Library.

Bobcat players have even shoveled snow from the roof at St. Anne's School in frigid temperatures when the snow weight was of concern. Elizabeth Olson of the Bobcat Hockey staff is involved with Junior Achievement in Mrs. Power's class at Cathedral Elementary. Audrey Halvorson, also of the Bobcat staff, works for the BLAST program and arranged for the players to visit with those students. At least four of the players are staff members of this after-school program.

Education Appreciation Weekend is January 30th and 31st when the Bobcats play against Albert Lea. The Bismarck Bobcat Hockey organization would like to thank the students and faculty of Bismarck and Mandan for their efforts in the education system and offer 20% off on tickets for any student or staff member who has a school ID.

At part of the North American Hockey League, the Bobcat players are developing their athletic skills with the hopes of being asked to play at a college where they will also further their education. These young player work hard to be of value to the team and to our communities during the long season from August to April. Support their efforts by cheering them on at an upcoming game.
