BOISE, ID, September 8, 2009 - The Idaho Stampede announced the hiring of Bob MacKinnon as the seventh head coach in the team's twelve-year history today.

"We are elated to have a coach of Bob's caliber lead our franchise," said Stampede President, Steve Brandes. "His 27 years of coaching experience at the professional and college level led us to believe he was the best candidate. As our head coach, he will have a positive impact both on the floor, and in the community."

MacKinnon will join the Stampede after serving as the head coach for the Colorado 14ers during the 2008-09 season. During his one year tenure with the 14ers, MacKinnon led the team to a 34-16 (.680) record and defeated the Utah Flash to win the 2009 NBA Development League Championship.

"My family and I are so excited to join the Stampede and the Treasure Valley community," said MacKinnon. "This is a great opportunity to be a part of one of the best organizations in the D-League. I am committed to continuing the success of the Idaho Stampede and look forward to being an integral member of the community."

A native of Buffalo, NY and the son of longtime NBA coach and General Manager Bob MacKinnon, Sr., MacKinnon played college basketball at King's college in Wilkes-Barre, PA, before embarking on his coaching career. He earned a Master's Degree in Education from Niagara University in 1997.

MacKinnon's coaching career started at his alma mater as an assistant before moving on to assistant coaching positions at Mercyhurst College, George Washington University and Niagara. He took over as head coach at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1997 and won a pair of Skyline Conference Championships, posting a 38-16 record in two seasons. He was also named the 1999 Skyline Conference Coach of the Year. From there he served as an assistant coach with Matt Doherty at Notre Dame for one season before transferring to UNC. During his first season with UNC, the Tar Heels had an 18-game winning streak and were ranked number one in the country.

In 2003, MacKinnon joined the staff of the Marshall University men's basketball team as the senior assistant for four seasons. From there, he earned a position with the Los Angeles Lakers as a scout as well as the associate director of the L.A. Lakers summer camps from 2005-08.

MacKinnon will reside in Boise with his wife, Suzanne, and their four sons Bobby Jr., Matthew, Brendan, and Ryan.
