President Cup Championship Connections - Maxime Desruisseaux
The 2021 President Cup Champion was crowned Saturday night in Quebec City, with the Victoriaville Tigres beating out Val-d'Or in game six of the finals.
Former Wildcats blueliner from 2001-2004, Maxime Desruisseaux was part of this championship team, serving as Assistant Coach with the club. Born in Victoriaville, Desruisseaux spent his first three seasons in the QMJHL here in Moncton, playing 176 games in the Cats jersey, before finishing his career where he started, with the Tigres.
In 2012-2013 Maxime began coaching and has been Assistant Coach with the Tigres for eight seasons.
Another Moncton tie comes with Nicolas Kingsbury-Fournier. Nicolas was drafted by Moncton in 2018 before being traded at Christmas times, appearing in 28 games for the Cats. This year with Victo he was in the lineup for 15 regular season games, and 16 playoffs.
We congratulate both Maxime and Nicolas on their win, and a great season!
Team USA - Conor Garland
Former Wildcat Conor Garland had an outstanding NHL season, followed by an impressive run at the IIHF World Hockey Championships with team USA.
Team USA and Garland captured the bronze medal yesterday, with a 6-1 win over Germany. Garland led the team in all scoring throughout the tournament with 7 assists and 6 goals, for 13 points in 10 games.
In addition, Conor was also named to the Media All-Star team, and one of the top three players of the tournament for team USA.
Conor joined Team USA for the IIHF's after an outstanding third season in the NHL with the Arizona Coyotes where he was third in team scoring with 39 points in 49 games. While leading the Coyotes in assists with 27. He is currently a NHL Restricted Free Agent, awaiting to hear where he will call home next season.
