Blues Win, Beat Witchita Falls 6-2

The Springfield Jr. Blues beat the Witchita Falls Wildcats 6-2 to end thier eight-game losing streak.

The Blues wasted little time as scoring leader Trent Frey scored a power play goal at 6:15 of the first period, assisted by Adam Coldwell and Jack Callahan. The Wildcats evened the score at one at the end of the first period. The second period was all Springfield as the Blues scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead going into the third period. Kevin ODonnell, with an assist from Justin Hochsprung scored at 2:39. Jon Gaffney, with help from Nick Curry & Brandon Lowndes, lit the lamp at 3:04. Nick Curry finished the second-period barrage with a powerplay goal with assists by Jon Gaffney & Austin Coldwell at 9:25. The Wildcats started the third-p! eriod scoring to get within two, however Jon Bobb scored at 9:55 to give the Blues a three goal lead. He was assisted by newcomer Jarrett Galbreath. With 29 seconds left in the game, Brian Prost scored goal number six to close out the scoring. Goaltender Matt Wichorek stopped 35 of 37 shots to secure the win.

The game was plagued by penalties with each team being whistled for 47 minutes on 14 infractions. Gaffney, Curry and Coldwell were awarded the three stars of the game for their efforts.

The teams meet again tomorrow night.
