U.S. National Under-18 Team Falls to Michigan Tech, 4-3

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Ryan Bourque (Boxford, Mass.) notched two goals within the last two minutes of regulation as the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to Michigan Tech University, 4-3, here tonight at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

Brett Olson notched the game's first goal on the power play at 6:42 of the opening period to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

After falling behind 2-0 in the second frame, Jerry D'Amigo (Binghamton, N.Y.) cut Team USA's deficit in half after he streaked down the left side and fired a shot past netminder Josh Robinson at 14:48. With just 33 seconds to play in the period, Eric Kattelus put Michigan Tech ahead, 3-1, with a power-play marker.

Malcom Gwilliam gave the Huskies a three-goal advantage 5:18 into the third stanza. With just 1:55 left in regulation, Bourque fired a shot just under the crossbar that beat Robinson stick-side to make it a 4-2 game. With Team USA on the man-advantage and netminder Brandon Maxwell (Winter Park, Fla.) pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Bourque stuffed home a rebound with 16 seconds left on the clock. However, Team USA was unable to find the equalizer before time ran out.

Maxwell made 27 saves on the night.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team returns to action Sunday (October 26) against Lake Superior State University of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association at 1:05 p.m. at Taffy Abel Arena.

NOTES: Team USA fell to 4-3-1 against NCAA competition and 1-1-0 against Western Collegiate Hockey Association opponents. The loss snapped a four-game unbeaten streak ... Cam Fowler (Farmington Hills, Mich.) has recorded at least one point in each of his last six games. He leads Team USA's defensive unit with nine points (3-6) ... Drew Shore (Denver, Colo.) recorded his team-leading ninth assist on Jerry D'Amigo's goal. Shore also is atop the team leader board with 14 points.
