With 1:06 left in the game, Topeka's Jordan George tied it up after a Springfield turnover at center ice.
The teams were scoreless in the five minute overtime period to force the shootout. Trent Frey scored first,! however Springfield's next three shooters failed to convert while Topeka scored three straight times to take the overtime win. The Blues earned a point for the OT loss.
Coach Chris Wyler had one word after the loss. "Frustrating", he said. "I say that only because we had the game won in spite of making alot of rookie mistakes on the ice. With such a young team, we're going to make some of those mistakes early on, but we'll keep getting better. Topeka is a very good team with alot of veteran players. Even though we traveled on a bus for eight hours today, we led this game most of the way and our guys played thier hearts out. We should have had the win and two points, but we'll take the point, hopefully learn something and come back out fighting tomorrow night".
Springfield goalie Matt Wichorek kept the Blues in the game as Topeka outshot the Blues 46-22.
The two teams square off again at 7:05pm Saturday night. The game can be viewed on the B2 Network lin! k available on the Jr. Blues website homepage.
