
Bluefish Win Late at Sugar Land

(Sugar Land, TX) - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 7-5 on Friday evening at Constellation Field.
Sugar Land score the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning on center fielder Adam Godwin's solo home run but the 'Fish responded with a run of their own in the top of the fourth inning on left fielder Casper Wells's RBI sacrifice fly. The Skeeters scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead on right fielder Brian Barton's two-run triple. Bridgeport rallied for two runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning on center fielder James Simmons two-run single to level the score at 3-3 but Sugar Land took the lead right back in the bottom of the fifth inning when left fielder Ryan Langerhans hit a two-run home run.
The 'Fish cut the lead to 5-4 in the top of the sixth inning when left fielder Casper Wells scored on an error by the right fielder after Luis Rodriguez's base hit and tied the game in the top of the eighth inning on Wells's RBI single after Castro led off the inning with a triple. After a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning, shortstop Mike Richard hit an infield single with one out and Simmons followed with two-run home run to right field to give Bridgeport a 7-5 lead. Winston Abreu came in to close the game out for Bridgeport and despite giving up a pair of singles and walking a man to load the bases, Abreu was able to induce Sugar Land's designated hitter Nick Stavinoha to fly out to right field to pick up his 17 th save of the season
Simmons paced the way offensively for Bridgeport, going three for five on the night with two runs scored and four RBIs.
Tim Gustafson (2-3) picked up the win in relief after working a perfect eighth inning. Matt Iannazzo started for Bridgeport and allowed five runs off ten hits in six and a third innings of work. Sugar Land's starting pitcher Dan Meadows went five innings and allowed three runs off four hits and struck out five batters while reliever Brian Broderick (0-1) took the loss for the hosts after allowing three runs in two innings pitched.
Bridgeport will face Sugar Land in the fourth game of their six-game series on Saturday, August 2nd, with first pitch at 7:05pm and can be seen on ESPN3.com. Bridgeport returns to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard to begin a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Wednesday August 6th, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
