Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 29, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of pitcher Steven Ames.

"Steven has some Major League experience which brings a lot to our team," says Bluefish Manager Ricky VanAsselberg. "We are excited to have him in the back end of the bullpen."

Steven comes to Bridgeport for his first season in the Atlantic League and seventh of professional baseball. Last year, the right-hander split time with the Gulf Coast League Marlins, Double-A Jacksonville of the Southern League, and Triple-A New Orleans of the Pacific Coast League (Miami). He made 23 total mound appearances, collecting a 3-3 record with a 3.59 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 30.1 innings of work.

The 27-year-old made his professional debut after he was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 17th round of the 2009 MLB draft out of Gonzaga University. He spent five years within the Dodgers organization, reaching as high as the Triple-A level. He was traded to the Miami Marlins organization in 2013, where he again played at the Triple-A level and made a brief appearance in the Major Leagues, appearing in four games. In 202 career minor league games, Ames owns a 12-13 record with a 2.45 ERA, 63 saves and 287 strikeouts in 249.1 innings of work.

The Bridgeport Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit BridgeportBluefish.com.
