Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws did not want to see the month of July end. Not only did Lakewood see the best playing record for the month than any previous BlueClaws teams but the organization eclipsed the all-time record for attendance mark for the month of July. The BlueClaws averaged 7,452 fans per game. Breaking the record set in 2001, the inaugural season in Lakewood, of 7,450.
As a team the BlueClaws posted their best month of July on the field. Lakewood compiled a 20-10 record during the month to propel the team into first place in the South Atlantic League Northern Division and allows them to try and become the first team in the six year history of baseball in Lakewood to advance into the post-season.
"There is no better feeling than a first place team and a packed house every night," BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown said. "The excitement is building as the team keeps gaining momentum with each win."
Lakewood enters the month of August hoping to continue the way July ended with big crowds and big wins. The BlueClaws currently have a five game lead in their division with just one month left in the regular season. With the team continuing its hold on first place, the BlueClaws are putting playoff tickets on sale. Playoff tickets go as follows; on August 4 tickets will go on sale for season ticket holders and on August 18 for the general public.
Fans should be ready to break more records in the month of August as the Lakewood BlueClaws will make the final dash to the 2006 South Atlantic League Playoffs. Lakewood opens a franchise record 12 game homestand on August 11 at 7:05 when the Lexington Legends come to town.
