Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Two of the top Gnats moved up to the next level Tuesday. Outfielder Dee Brown and starting pitcher Craig Stammen will both join the Potomac Nationals roster today as they take on the Lynchburg Hillcats in Lynchburg.

Brown is hitting .278 with six homers and 51 RBI in 103 games with Savannah this season. He led the team with a .336 average and 18 RBI in July. A two-year starting fullback at the University of Central Florida, Brown was selected in the 10th round of the 2005 amateur draft.

Stammen is 6-9 on the year with a 3.58 ERA. The 22-year-old was the Gnats Opening Day starter this season and has won five of his last seven decisions. Stammen was the Sand Gnats pitcher of the month for June as he went 3-0 with a 2.10 ERA for the month.

Taking Stammen's spot on the roster will be Shairon (sha-RONE) Martis (mar-TEES). The Washington Nationals acquired Martis acquired this past Friday from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for left-handed reliever Mike Stanton. The Nationals have not yet announced who will fill Brown's void on the roster.

The Gnats have Tuesday off and will start a four-game series with Greensboro on Wednesday.
