Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)--The Lakewood BlueClaws lowered the magic number for clinching the SAL North title to three with a 7-3 victory over the Lake County Captains Thursday night at Classic Park.
The BlueClaws (41-18) jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning against Captains starter Dan Cevette, who was making his first appearance of 2006. After a pair of walks with one, Jeremy Slayden cranked a three-run homer to right to make it 3-0. Lou Marson later doubled off Cevette (0-1) to make it 4-0.
Lakewood made it 7-0 with three in the fourth against Albert Vargas. Avelino Asprilla clubbed a two-run single, and Mike Spidale chipped in a hit to drive in Asprilla.
Vargas allowed only the three runs in six innings of relief.
Lakewood starter and MVP candidate Carlos Carrasco (11-6) picked up the win despite walking four and striking out one. He entered the game ranked second in the SAL in strikeouts with 151. He lasted 5 1/3 innings and gave up two runs.
The Captains (31-26) are 6-12 against the BlueClaws this season, including a 2-6 mark at Classic Park.
The series continues on Friday night at 7:05. Fireworks will follow the game. For tickets, call 954-WINS. Fan Appreciation Weekend continues on Saturday (7:05 PM) and Sunday (2:05 PM).
