LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Lakewood BlueClaws will welcome home the New Jersey National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 112th Field Artillery, Charlie Battery and Detachment 1 Service on April 7 as part of the Opening Day festivities at FirstEnergy Park.

"We couldn't be happier to offer our service men and women this opportunity," BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown said. "With the dedication and sacrifices that are required of these individuals, this is the least we can offer them and their loved ones."

The "Welcome Home Celebration" commences at 6:15 p.m. as a pre-game activity on Opening Day. Groups and organizations wishing to sit together so they can be recognized by the troops are strongly urged to reserve their seats as soon as possible.

"Based on the strong turnout we had for the troop send-off in November for our soldiers going to Germany," said Bernard Viggiani, Community Liaison for the Toms River Armory Family Readiness Group. "Staging a large scale ‘welcome home' was becoming a real problem because of timing and facility conflicts."

The men and women in service call the Toms River Armory and Ocean County home. The troops were mobilized more than a year ago leaving their families and full time jobs and deployed to Iraq.

Representation on the field from all 33 townships in Ocean County is expected at the ceremony. The public can expect to see a grand entrance of soldiers along with some of their military vehicles.

This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Every Monday kids 12-years of age and under eat free thanks to ShopRite and fireworks follow every Friday night home game courtesy of Toyota World and Scion World of Lakewood. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against affiliates of the New York Yankees and Mets.

The BlueClaws begin their fifth season on April 7 at home against Lake County at 6:35 p.m. Tickets for the season are now on sale. For information call 732-901-7000 Option 2 or for more information, visit www.blueclaws.com.
