LAKEWOOD, N.J. â The Lakewood BlueClaws stopped their afternoon game tied at six with the class-A farm club of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at the Devil Rays Complex.
Kevin Shepard started and worked 3.2 innings, allowing five hits and one run (earned). Nathan Johnson, Juan Alvarez and Jacob Barrack all worked in relief.
At the plate, Sean Gamble collected another hit for the BlueClaws this spring. Last season, Gamble led Batavia with a .308 batting average, hits (75), doubles (15), triples (6) and walks (31).
Gamble is also a native of Englewood, New Jersey, graduating from Jefferson Davis High School prior to attending Auburn University.
Josh Mader led the offense, collecting three hits, going 3-4 with an RBI and Jason Crosland went 2-5.
Tomorrow the future BlueClaws will meet the Yankees class-A club at 1:00 p.m. at the Yankees Complex. In all, the BlueClaws will take part in 18 Spring Training games before breaking camp and arriving April 5 in Lakewood.
This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Every Monday kids 12-years of age and under eat free thanks to ShopRite and fireworks follow every Friday night home game courtesy of Toyota World and Scion World of Lakewood. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against affiliates of the New York Yankees and Mets.
