BlueClaws 5K Race Returns April 10th

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The BlueClaws will partner with the Jersey Shore Council of Boy Scouts of America and the Ocean Running Club for their 2011 5K Race and One Mile Kids Fun Run to be held April 10th at FirstEnergy Park.

The Kids Fun Run will begin at 10 am with the 5K Race following at 10:30. Both races will end on the field at FirstEnergy Park.

All participants will receive a ticket to that day's BlueClaws game (1:05 pm). Pre-registered runners will receive a BlueClaws 5K t-shirt. Awards will be given to the top 3 overall male and female finishers as well as top 3 finishers in 5 year age groups.

"Last years 5K was our biggest ever, and we expect this years race to be an even bigger event," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "For runners, the chance to finish the race on our field is a really unique experience. We are working with some great partners to put on the race, and we are very excited for the event."

There are three ways runners can register. Simply send in the registration form. Registration is $20 for the 5K Run and $10 for 1 Mile Fun Run through April 1st, and $25 and $15 after April 1st.

Members of the Jersey Shore Council of Boy Scouts of America will race in the event as part of the the scouts' Physically Fit Initiative.

"Being in strong physical condition is a very important part of scouting," said Craig Shelley, Executive Director of JSCBSA. "Promoting healthy lifestyles for youth is a critical part of our mission and we are very much looking forward to our continued partnership with the BlueClaws in this cause."

The BlueClaws open their 11th season of providing family fun and affordable entertainment at the Jersey Shore on Thursday, April 7th, when they raise the 2010 South Atlantic League Championship banner.
