HOLYOKE, Mass. - The Vermont Mountaineers lost 7-2 on Thursday evening at the hands of the Valley Blue Sox in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).

The Blue Sox put a run on the board in the second, a pair in the fourth, and then broke the game open in the seventh inning with three runs to lead them to victory.

Valley's Braxton Morris (Albertville, Ala./Morehead State) got them started when he singled in the second inning and came around to score when Tyler Lyne (Feeding Hills, Mass./Merrimack) grounded into a fielder's choice.

Blue Sox center fielder Brodie Leftridge (Highland, Md./Tennessee) scored their second run of the game when Lyne drove him in on a sac fly. Kyle Motice (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Cincinnati) knocked an RBI single later that inning, driving in Leftridge.

Mountaineers starter Mike Fairchild (Olympia, Wash./Azusa Pacific) went four innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. The righty walked three and struck out two.

The Blue Sox started Aaron Leasher (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Morehead), who threw six solid innings, allowing no earned runs on just two hits, while walking one and striking out seven.

Valley tacked on three runs in the seventh when the Mountaineers walked in a run, and then Chris Starcun (Easthampton, Mass./American International) knocked a two-run single. The Blue Sox got one more in the eighth when Tyler Lyne scored on a wild pitch to put the game out of reach.

Vermont's offense came in the top of the third, when Joe Tietjen (Waxhaw, N.C./UNC Asheville) reached base on an error by Valley's catcher. Tietjen then took second on an errant pick-off attempt, and stole third. The center fielder then scored on a delayed steal of home to put the Mountaineers on the board.

Vermont tacked on one more run in the top of the ninth when shortstop Mike Osinski (Vestal, N.Y./Longwood) singled and then scored on an RBI groundout by Ryan Fineman.

Fairchild got the loss, moving him to 0-2 on the season. Leasher got the win for Valley.

The Mountaineers will be in action again on Friday when they'll take on the Plymouth Pilgrims for the first time this season. First pitch has been moved up an hour to 5:30 PM in order to avoid the rain that is forecasted. The game can be heard on CBS Sports 1240 AM WSKI or online through The NECBL Broadcast Network.
