Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
STAYING ON SCRIPT: A night after their first blowout in a while, the Wilmington Blue Rocks got back to their more recent ways of winning tight ballgames as they slipped by the Potomac Nationals at Frawley Stadium last night, 4-2.
INDIVISIBLE: With wins in six of their last seven games, the Blue Rocks stand 4.0 games back of first-place Lynchburg in the Northern Division. Just 2.0 games back of the Blue Crew stands today's foe, Potomac. This marks the penultimate series against divisional competition for the Blue Crew. Once today's game concludes, 22 of Wilmington's 25 remaining games this half will pit it against Southern Division squads. Entering today, the North has a composite record of 78-91 (.462) while the South stands at 91-78 (.538). Three of the four teams in the North have a losing record compared none of the four in the South.
HEY, I KNOW YOU: For the 15th time this season, Jansen Visconti and Rich Gonzalez combined to umpire a game involving the Rocks. After today, they will have arbitrated 36% of Wilmington's games on the year.
DID YOU KNOW?: With a win today, the Blue Rocks would have their first three-game home winning streak of the season.
COMEBACK KIDS: The Blue Rocks notched another come-from-behind win on Tuesday, their 12th of the season. That means 57% of their wins have come in games where they have trailed including rallying from three deficits after the seventh or later in the last week. No CL squad has more wins when trailing after seven frames than Wilmington (4). Potomac had not lost in a dozen games when leading after seven innings until last night.
BROOM READY: The Rocks go for their first sweep of the season this morning. The last broom cleaning came at the expense of Frederick to close out the 2011 regular season. The Keys went on to win the Mills Cup championship while the Blue Crew missed the playoffs for a second straight year.
WHEN IN ROME: Roman Hernandez finally busted out of extra-base hit drought. He had gone 24 games without an extra-base hit until he whacked a double in the ninth inning which tied the game at two.
BELTRE'S BELT: Geulin Beltre broke out of a big hitting slump on Tuesday. After going hitless in his last 24 at-bats, the Rocks' right fielder roped an RBI single in the third inning which gave Wilmington a 1-0 lead at the time.
SERIESOUS: With the win on Tuesday, the Blue Rocks have clinched their second straight series. They had not won two straight series since May 20-25, 2011, when they swept Myrtle Beach in a three-game set and took two of three from Frederick. They may still record consecutive series victories from earlier this season, but a pivotal fourth game against the Dash in April stands in suspended limbo.
PEBBLES OF KNOWLEDGE: The Blue Rocks are on their first three-game home winning streak of the season...It is their first since sweeping the final weekend series against Frederick last year from September 3-5...Last night the team improved to 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA when Juan Graterol is the starting catcher...Wilmington assembled a new season-long string of scoreless innings at 15 from Sunday until the fifth inning last night...The Rocks have struggled in sunshine-filled ball games, going 1-5...However, they won their most recent day game in Sunday's walk-off against Myrtle Beach...With the victory, the Blue Rocks improved their record to 3-8 when facing left-handed starters...They are a bit above sea level at 18-15 when facing right-handed starters.
