WILMINGTON, DE â On Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, 2003, the Wilmington Blue Rocks invite all expectant mothers to come to Frawley Stadium and participate in a special "Give Birth Day" promotion. The first woman to give birth closest to the first pitch at 1:35 p.m. will receive a prize package that includes a year's supply of diapers and infant-related items courtesy of Happy Harry's and Kimberly-Clark valued at $2,500.
Expectant mothers participating in the promotion are asked to register with the Wilmington Blue Rocks prior to the game. The expectant mothers can register by calling the Blue Rocks at (302) 888-2015. "Give Birth Day" participants will receive four complimentary tickets to the afternoon game against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Each expectant mother participating will receive a baby-product package courtesy of Happy Harry's and Kimberly-Clark.
"It is great to reward one lucky family with a prize package that enables them to save a great deal of money otherwise spent on baby necessities," said Chris Parise, director of sales and marketing. "Raising a baby is very expensive and this can be a great relief for a family just starting out with a new addition.
The Blue Rocks, along with the aforementioned sponsors, held a similar promotion called "Labor Day" on September 2, 2002. The winning mother, Michelle Albanese, along with her husband Chris Albanese, welcomed their daughter Victoria Faith into the world at 1:15 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4 at Christiana Care Hospital. Mrs. Albanese was the first of 20 registered mothers to deliver her baby in 2002.
The Wilmington Blue Rocks host the Myrtle Beach Pelicans from May 9-11. The Blue Rocks and the Pelicans play a doubleheader on Friday with the first pitch being thrown at 6:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Blue Rocks ticket office at (302) 888-BLUE or by visiting the Blue Rocks website at www.bluerocks.com.
