St. Lucie Mets News Release

DUNEDIN, Fla. - The Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the St. Lucie Mets 9-5 on Thursday night at TD Ballpark in the conclusion of Wednesday's suspended game.

The game was suspended in the top of the second with no score on Wednesday due to inclement weather. When it picked back up on Thursday the Blue Jays scored six runs in the bottom of the second and cruised to the victory.

Angel Del Rosario opened the scoring with a RBI double and Nicolas Deschamps plated a run on a ground out to make it 2-0. The Mets had a chance to get out of the second inning down just two runs but trouble ensued with two outs. Saul Garcia walked a batter and hit a batter to load the bases. Elliot Johnstone came in and walked the first batter to force home a run that made it 3-0. Johnstone uncorked a wild pitch to bring home another run to make it 4-0. Roque Salinas capped the inning with a two-run single for a 6-0 lead.

The Mets scored three runs in the top of the third. Wilfredo Lara hit a RBI double, Vincent Perozo followed with a run-scoring single and Kellum Clark hit a sharp RBI sac fly to make it 6-3. The Mets brought Yeral Martinez to the plate as the tying run but Carlos Dominguez was caught stealing by the catcher Deschamps to end the threat.

Jaden Rudd hit run-scoring singles for Dunedin in the third inning and fifth inning to build an 8-3 lead.

Dominguez hit a towering solo homer, his fifth of the season, in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 8-4.

The Blue Jays tacked on a sac fly from Del Rosario in the bottom of the eighth to go back up by five, 9-4.

The Mets threated in the top of the ninth. Lara smoked a RBI single off Chay Yeager to make it 9-5. Dominguez emerged in the on-deck circle as the potential tying run by Yeager struck out Perozo and then got Dominguez to pop out to end the game.

Dunedin pitcher Eliander Alcalde, who restarted the game, got the win. He pitched 1.2 innings and gave up three runs on three hits.

Garcia took the loss. He allowed five runs in 0.2 innings.

Lara, Dominguez and Martinez had two hits apiece for the Mets. Karell Paz went 1 for 5 to extend his hitting streak to six games. The Mets pounded out 11 hits in the loss.

Salinas went 3 for 4 with a walk and two RBI for the Blue Jays.

The Mets (40-75, 16-34) and Blue Jays (54-62, 22-28) will play a doubleheader at TD Ballpark on Friday to get their series back on track. First pitch in game 1 is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
