Blue Jays to Honor Dunedin with Specialty Orange Jerseys

DUNEDIN-FL - The Dunedin Blue Jays will honor their home in the city of Dunedin on Thursday, July 12th at Dunedin Stadium during their game against the Clearwater Threshers by taking the field in custom Dunedin Orange Jerseys sponsored by Floor and Decor. The uniforms feature the artwork of local artist Steve Spathelf, whose murals and artwork appears throughout the city of Dunedin.
The front of each uniform will boldly feature a single orange painted by Spathelf identical to the oranges painted on local houses and downtown businesses under the team's "Dunedin" script. The sleeves of the uniforms will pay homage to the city's rich citrus history with a collage of oranges appearing on both the front and back.
Mr. Spathelf has been painting oranges on buildings in Dunedin since 2009. Originally, he painted them in secret before sunrise with fellow local artist Marsha Goins. The reaction from the public was so overwhelmingly positive upon the appearance of the oranges throughout Dunedin, with local businesses posting signs in their windows requesting paintings on their buildings, that Spathelf and Goins came forward as the mystery artists and have continued to paint around the city to this day. Their artwork helped rekindle Dunedin's citrus history and inspired the Chamber of Commerce to organize the first annual Dunedin Orange Festival in 2010.
The uniforms worn by the Blue Jays on the 12th are available for auction currently to raise money for charity. Fans can bid on their favorite player's uniform and get tickets by visiting https://www.milb.com/dunedin/events/orangejerseys. The gates at Dunedin Stadium will open at 5:30 PM on July 12th and the game will begin at 6:30 PM.
