Dunedin Blue Jays News Release

DUNEDIN, FL - The Dunedin Blue Jays (45-59, 13-21) soared on Friday night, sweeping the doubleheader with the Palm Beach Cardinals (55-49, 23-11) with 14 shutout innings at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.

Game One began with another lead-off single for Anthony Alford, which led to an RBI sac-fly by Rowdy Tellez to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead after the first. A four-run third inning for Dunedin, however, created a commanding 5-0 Blue Jay lead.

The bottom of the third featured RBI singles by Andy Fermin, Rowdy Tellez, and Mitch Nay. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Tellez showcased a deceiving burst of speed when he scored from second base on Nay's liner to left field. Derrick Loveless also tacked on a bases loaded RBI single in the sixth before Derrick Chung walked in to score the final run, giving the Blue Jays a 7-0 victory.

Conner Greene (1-3) garnered his first Florida State League win in Game One after tossing five scoreless innings and fanning three batters. Brady Dragmire pocketed the save after taking the mound in the seventh. Nay slapped a double with a lone RBI to highlight his 2-for-2 Game One.

The Blue Jays took off to an early lead again in Game Two when Dickie Joe Thon belted a two-run triple off the left-center wall in the bottom of the second.

Tellez followed suit in the bottom of the fifth with a 2-run double of his own to the depths of center field. Dunedin managed to maintain its 4-0 lead from the fifth inning on. Both Tellez and Thon finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Matt Dermody (3-0) received the start and the win, pitching five scoreless innings while giving up a mere two hits with two strikeouts. Arik Sikula took control in the sixth to replace Dermody, allowing no hits with three strikeouts.

The Dunedin Blue Jays and Palm Beach Cardinals series will transition into game three tomorrow, Saturday, August 1st before the finale on Sunday. Dunedin and Palms beach have yet to announce starters for tomorrow's contest. Saturday, August 1st is Ladies Night and Fight for a Cure at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.
