Blue Jays' Pitching Deals Yet Again in 2-1 Eleven Inning Loss
April 21, 2023 - Florida State League (FSL)
Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
Jupiter, FL - For the third consecutive game at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, we had a pitcher's duel Friday. Cardinals pitching held Dunedin to just two hits in the ballgame, but Blue Jays pitching kept up. During the course of the game, the Blue Jays staff extended their scoreless streak to 28.2 innings, the longest streak for the club since July of 2018.
Neither team could buy a run in the game, but Dunedin did have a couple chances. In the second, the Blue Jays were able to draw to walks, with both advancing into scoring position on an error, and in the ninth, they loaded the bases with two outs. Neither situation resulted in a run coming in to score.
Nearly two hours after first pitch, and no runs on the board for either team, off to extras it went, the third extra inning game already for the Blue Jays. Both teams exchanged runs in the tenth, scoring the automatic runner from second, so the game entered the eleventh inning.
With Jaden Rudd starting at second, Cardinals reliever Victor Villanueva induced back-to-back pop outs and a fly out to keep the game tied. Grayson Thurman came back out to pitch after entering in the tenth for Dunedin. It only took one pitch for Palm Beach left fielder Alex Iadisernia to lay down a bunt to third and reach base on what was ruled a hit, but an errant throw from Angel Del Rosario so the ball glance off of Ryan McCarty's glove and into the Cardinals bullpen, easily scoring Chris Rotondo from second.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall back under .500 at 6-7, and drop to 0-3 in extra inning games. Dunedin has a chance to bounce back on Saturday. Game 5 of the road series is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and will be live on the Dunedin Blue Jays Radio Network with coverage starting at 5:45 p.m.
