Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

Waldorf, MD - After splitting the first two games of a four game series, Southern Maryland came back with a vengeance in game three. After trailing 3-0 in the early going, four unanswered Blue Crab runs put the pin on an emphatic 4-3 victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters.

The Skeeters struck first off of Southern Maryland's starter, John Hayes (W, 2-4). Six straight Skeeters either got a hit, drew a walk, or smacked a sacrifice fly, as they would plate a trio in the top of the second. Hayes stranded the bases loaded in that frame, and bounced back by retiring eleven straight opponents.

After missing out on a scoring opportunity early, the Blue Crabs came through in the bottom of the third. Josh McAdams drove in the first Blue Crabs run of the contest for the second night in row, and was hitting .351 since June 15th after the single.

Chase De Jong pitched in the MLB for the Minnesota Twins as recently as April 9th, 2019, but got the start this evening for the Skeeters. The right-hander allowed seven hits and three earned runs in just over five innings of work.

The bottom of the sixth inning featured three different Sugar Land arms, and put the Blue Crabs in control of the contest. After Tony Thomas pounded his second home run in as many games, Edwin Garcia came through with an two run single giving the Blue Crabs the lead and giving Garcia 21 RBI's in 32 second half games.

The bullpen shut it down in a hitless seventh, eighth, and ninth, capped off by Mat Latos who picked up his 18th save in 19 tries this season. Southern Maryland took home the victory this evening by a final score of 4-3.

The Blue Crabs will return home tomorrow, Thursday August 15th for the series finale of a four game set with the Sugar Land Skeeters, and a 6:35 p.m first pitch.
