WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today signed experienced young offensive lineman Shawn Gifford to the practice roster.

Gifford (6-5, 285, Charleston Southern '00, DOB: May 6, 1977 in Ottawa, ON) comes to Winnipeg after most recently playing for the Toronto Argonauts.

Gifford – who has also spent time with the Montréal Alouettes and the Saskatchewan Roughriders – has played in 37 regular-season games and three playoff contests.

THE CFL YEARS – TORONTO ARGONAUTS – 2004

Gifford attended the Toronto Argonauts training camp in 2004 but was released.

THE CFL YEARS – TORONTO ARGONAUTS – 2003

Gifford first signed with the Argos, Feb. 25, 2003. He appeared in 17 of Toronto's 18 regular-season games along with the 2003 East Division Semifinal and East Division Championship.

THE CFL YEARS – SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS – 2002

Starting 11 games in 2002, Gifford played in all 18 regular-season games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders plus the 2003 East Division Semifinal crossover game against his future teammates – the Toronto Argonauts.

THE CFL YEARS – SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS – 2001

Gifford signed as a free agent with the Green Riders, Oct. 26, 2001. He played in the last two regular-season games of the 2001 season for Saskatchewan.

THE CFL YEARS – MONTRÉAL ALOUETTES – 2001

The Montréal Alouettes originally selected Gifford in the 4th Round (25th Overall) of the 2001 Canadian College Draft. He attended their training camp that year but was released June 28, 2001.

THE COLLEGE YEARS – CHARLESTON SOUTHERN BUCS

Gifford played four years of U.S. College football for the Charleston Southern University Bucs. He was a key member of an offensive line in 1999 that set school records for total offence.
