Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers placed four players on the 2005 CFL West Division All-Star Team, which was announced earlier today.

The four Bomber selections include running back Charles Roberts and slotback Milt Stegall on offence, defensive end Gavin Walls on defence and punter Jon Ryan on special teams.

OFFENCE

Roberts rushed for a career best 1,624 yards on 290 carries in 2005. Both marks were tops in the CFL this season. He also topped the league in yards from scrimmage with 2,098. Roberts added another 474 yards on 49 catches. His 12 rushing TDs were second best in the league.

Stegall continued to get better with age in '05. He led the league in TD receptions with 17 and average gain per reception at 22.8 yards. He finished the season with 52 receptions and 1,184 yards, the eighth time he cracked the century mark in his 11 seasons with the Blue and Gold.

DEFENCE

Walls had one of the best seasons ever for a first-year Bomber defender. He finished tied for second in the league in quarterback sacks with 12. He also scored two TDs, one on an interception return and another on a fumble return. His final numbers also included 40 tackles, three special teams tackles and four pass knockdowns. Walls' strong play didn't go unnoticed around the league. He was named the Rogers CFL Lineman of the Week an astounding four times in 2005. He is also a finalist for the CFL Rookie of the Year Award.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Ryan sent shivers down the spines of opposing special teams players and coaches every time he stepped onto the field. He led the league in gross punting yards (5,967) and gross punting average (50.6 yards), the latter of which set a new CFL standard. Ryan also led all punters in net punting yards (4,997) and net punting average (42.3 yards).

All-star selections were made by members of the Football Reporters of Canada from each CFL market, a national chapter of FRC voters and each of the CFL head coaches.
