Lexington County Blowfish News Release

Florence, S.C. (June 22, 2015) - The Lexington County Blowfish finished a suspended doubleheader with the Florence RedWolves, winning game one 7-0 behind a three-hit shutout from Canaan Cropper (University of South Carolina), and dropping game two 1-0 thanks in part to a late Florence rally.

Cropper was in complete control all night long. He ended the split effort with five strikeouts, and all 27 outs under his name.

The Blowfish began game one up 2-0, and finished that game unrelenting. They smacked 12 hits in the victory. Trevor Bradley's (USC-Aiken) two-run single put the visitors in front on June 9, and kept them ahead throughout the rest of the game.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Blowfish made their move. Three straight singles from Sly Edwards (Charleston Southern), Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) and J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion) tacked on one run. Madison Stokes (University of South Carolina) followed up with a single in which Williams scored on an overthrown ball from right field.

They would not stop in the eighth inning either. Blowfish bats teed off on the RedWolves' relief pitching. Danny Edgeworth's (Mercer University) double into the right field gap set the table for the rest of the order. Tyler Lancaster (Spartanburg Methodist) ripped a single up the middle to bring him in. Williams continued his marvelous day at the plate with a two-run triple to drive in Lancaster and Edwards, who had reached on a prior error to make it 7-0.

In game two, Florence starter James Walsh was in complete control. He only allowed singles to Crowe and Howard Joe (Mercer University). Walsh retired the final 17 Blowfish hitters to pick up the complete game victory. He entered the game with five strikeouts. He exited the game with 16.

Taylor Widener (University of South Carolina) went the distance for the Blowfish. RedWolves' first baseman Ben Holland would capitalize on a squeeze bunt with one out to score Chris Adams for the only run of the game. Widener had previously erased all other scoring opportunities, but the RedWolves broke through on their final shot.

All in all, Blowfish pitching allowed one total run to Florence on seven hits throughout this entire doubleheader.

The Blowfish return home for a critical two-game swing with the Florence RedWolves with playoff implications on the line. Tuesday, the Blowfish will be celebrating Dog Day Tuesday presented by MetLife. Fans can bring their dog on a leash to enjoy the game, which starts at 7:05 p.m. at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. Tickets are available now by calling the box office at 803-254-FISH, online at blowfishbaseball.com, and at Blowfish on Main (101 East Main Street, Lexington, South Carolina).
