Blowfish Rally Past Owls
June 20, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Forest City, NC - Down 4-0 to the Forest City Owls, the Lexington County Blowfish rallied to tie it late, and then win the game 5-4 at McNair Field.
Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) jacked RBI singles in the seventh and ninth innings. The first one, which trimmed the Forest City lead to one, scored Danny Edgeworth (Mercer University), who led off the inning with a double. The second one, which put the Blowfish in front for good, scored Sly Edwards (Charleston Southern), who advanced to third on an error.
Forest City had the tying, and winning runs, in scoring position with two outs. Trevor Bradley (USC-Aiken) forced Ray Carolina to fly out, eventfully, to the left field corner. Williams sprawled out and made the catch, keeping the winning ways going.
Connor Owings (Coastal Carolina) tied the game at four in the eighth inning, knocking an RBI double to score Madison Stokes (University of South Carolina).
Forest City took advantage of a bases loaded, nobody-out jam in the first inning, scoring once. Blake Hamilton (University of Georgia) navigated the difficult inning, allowing a fielder's choice to Zack Canada, allowing Carolina to score.
The Owls would score three times in a tumultuous second inning. Aside from that, they would be held completely in check by a combination of Erik Davis (USC-Aiken), Avery Greer (University of North Georgia), and Bradley, who picked up his second save of the season.
Strikeouts were issued with regularity throughout the night. Davis' first five outs were all punchouts. Greer struck out five batters in his two innings of work. Bradley added one more.
The Blowfish have now won five of the last six games.
The Blowfish return home on Saturday night to take on the High Point-Thomasville HiToms at 7:05 p.m. for Star Wars Night. Secure your spot at Lexington County Baseball Stadium by calling the box office at 803-254-FISH, online at blowfishbaseball.com, and at Blowfish on Main (101 East Main Street in Lexington, S.C.).
