Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Lexington County, S.C. (July 17, 2015) -- The sold-out crowd cheered hit after hit, as the Lexington County Blowfish slugged their way to a 12-6 victory over the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Friday night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
Once the hit parade started, it never seemed to stop. The Blowfish generated 17 hits, which tied the mark for the most hits in one game all season. The last time that happened was against these same SwampDogs a week ago.
The Blowfish have now mashed double-digit hits in seven of the last eleven games.
They lost an early lead, but a four-run fourth inning preserved the lead for good. Nick Graganella (Florida State) started the run-producing party with a single to left center to score Dalton Duty (University of Central Florida).
Gene Cone (University of South Carolina), who doubled three separate times in this game, and scored four times, doubled home Danny Edgeworth (Mercer University) and Graganella. Anthony Paulsen (Winthrop) finished things off with an RBI single of his own to plate Cone.
Connor Owings' (Coastal Carolina) double capped the scoring in the sixth inning, and the Blowfish would end their scoring on three consecutive run-producing bits of contact in the seventh inning--a double by Cone, a single by Paulsen, and a groundout by Bennette Hill (Shelton State).
Cone, Paulsen, Owings and Graganella all finished with multiple RBIs in this game. Cone, Duty, Edgeworth and Graganella all scored multiple times in the rout.
After Robbie Baker's (Richmond) five innings, Brandon White (Lander University) dominated from that point on. White retired all but two batters in a row, striking out six batters over four innings of work. He allowed only a single to Alex Liquori, and a walk to Mitchell Roman.
Fayetteville took advantage of three Blowfish defensive errors. Only three of the six runs against were earned, due in part to two wild pitches that advanced Fayetteville's CJ Needham from first to third, an error that scored Sky Overton, and an error that helped Austin Upshaw score as well.
None of that seemed to matter once the offense got in gear late.
Lexington County won the five-game season series with Fayetteville in 2015. The Blowfish ended 1-2 at home, even while dealing 39 hits. They would take both contests at J.P. Riddle Stadium, shutting out the SwampDogs 4-0 on June 27, and winning in extras 8-6 on July 6.
The Blowfish have now won three of the last five games, and will look to continue the momentum on the road as they complete a suspended doubleheader with the Forest City Owls on Saturday night starting at 5:00 p.m. Join the live broadcast on Z93.1 FM The Lake starting at 4:50.
Blowfish baseball returns to Lexington County Baseball Stadium on Monday night, when they will face off with the first-half champion Gastonia Grizzlies. Fans can wear their favorite football jersey on "Monday Night Football" night for a chance to win a Blowfish prize.
