Grizzlies Take Game One of Midnight Madness DH

GASTONIA, N.C. - The Grizzlies won Game One of the Midnight Madness doubleheader 7-1 Friday night at Sims Legion Park.

Gastonia jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the third inning and then got three more insurance runs in the sixth to cruise to victory.

Brandon Casas (Charlotte) and Logan Cook (UNC Pembroke) combined to pitch seven innings and limit the Owls to four hits and one run. Casas improved to 3-1 on the mound.

Taylor Allum (Kennesaw State) hit a two-run homer and Jackson Mims (East Carolina) went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Blake Edwards (Columbus State) was 1-for-4 with two RBI.

The Grizzlies (11-5, 28-16) travel to Florence Saturday night.

Winners of the CPL West Division first-half championship, Gastonia clinched a postseason berth on July 29. The Petitt Cup playoffs begin Aug. 5 featuring the top eight teams in the league in best-of-three, first-round series with the higher seeds holding home-field advantage.
