Lexington County Blowfish News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - With the offense struggling and mired in a two-game losing streak, the Columbia Blowfish took to the road for the second half of a home and home with the Fayetteville Swampdogs.
The Blowfish dropped the first game at home last night 5-3, and sent Trevor Hutto (USC-Aiken) to the mound this evening to try and turn things around.
A stellar outing by Hutto and just enough offense to eek out the win proved to be exactly what the doctor ordered, as the Blowfish were able to stave off Fayetteville for their second win of this young season.
Hutto gave the Blowfish 7 strong innings of work on the hill, allowing 3 hits and walking just one batter in giving up one earned run. Hutto punched out 7 Swampdogs batters, giving him the team lead in strikeouts with 14.
Offensively, the bats came to life for the Blowfish. 10 hits in the game yielded 4 runs for Columbia. Robbie Streett, of Charleston Southern University, drove in a couple runs and scored a pair as well, going 1 for 3 on the evening.
Starting catcher Derek Fritz (Florida State) contributed a sacrifice fly as well.
Up 4-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning, the Swampdogs were able to narrow the gap. They plated two runs but left the bases juiced, sending the game into the 9th inning with the Blowfish clinging to the one-run lead.
Fayetteville would get one more crack at it in the bottom of the 9th inning, but Evan Raynor had other ideas. Raynor, who has committed to play for Charleston Southern next season after attending Florence Darlington Technical College, struck out the side in the 9th to seal the victory for Columbia.
With the win, the Blowfish improve to 2-3 overall on the season.
Columbia gets the day off on Sunday before a three day road-trip north to take on Martinsville, Petersburg and Edenton. The Blowfish then return home on Thursday June 5th to take on the Gastonia Grizzlies at Historic Capital City Stadium.
