Lexington County Blowfish News Release

THOMASVILLE, N.C.- The Columbia Blowfish topped the Thomasville HiToms 5-4 Sunday evening in Coastal Plain League play. The win puts the Blowfish in a great position to wrap up the second half west division crown after clinching a playoff spot last night.

The Blowfish got on the board with two runs in the top of the first. Federico Castagnini led the game off with a double and scored when Graham Saiko reached on an error by the left fielder. Saiko later scored on a Gabe Loweree RBI single to center.

The HiToms did not stay down for long though as they came back to tie the game with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. That would be all the HiToms would get off of Blowfish starting pitcher Derek Beasley as he went five innings giving up just the two runs on five hits. He also struck out one and got the win for the Blowfish.

The Blowfish retook the lead with a run in the sixth on a Joshua Miller RBI double to left field after Saiko led the inning off with a double of his own to center field. The Blowfish then got solid relief work from Tucker Ward who went two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two.

The Blowfish then extended their lead to 5-2 in the ninth scoring two runs. Zack Rusell-Myers ripped a two RBI double to centerfield to score Jose Soto and Todd Joyner. Joshua Knab pitched the final two innings to get the save for the Blowfish but did guve up two unearned runs in the ninth as the HiToms cut the Blowfish lead to one.

The Blowfish will continue their three game road trip tomorrow night at Peninsula. The Blowfish will return to Historic Capital City Stadium on Wednesday as they host Forest City in a doubleheader beginning at 5:05. Tickets for Fan Appreciation night are available at blowfisbaseball.com or by calling 254-FISH.
