Blowfish Fall to Forest City 5-1

COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish losing streak extended to four games Wednesday night as the Blowfish fell to the Forest City Owls 5-1.

Stuart Pound gave the Blowfish another solid start going five innings giving up two runs on four hits and striking out five. Joshua Knab came on in relief for Pound going two innings giving up 2 runs on three hits while striking out one. Adam Albers also pitched in relief for the Blowfish going two innings giving up one run on one hit while striking out two.

The Blowfish got on the board in the first inning after Federico Castagnini walked and was singled to third by Jarrod Reed. Graham Saiko walked and Castagnini scored on a throw down to second on ball four of the walk of Saiko. The Blowfish would later threaten but were not able to push any more runs across.

Castagning and Gabriel Loweree each went 2-4 and Joshue Miller went 2-3 to lead the Blowfish offensive attack.

The Owls tied the game in the third after Nathan Chong doubled and later scored on a Bryan Aanderud single. The Owls took the lead with a single run in the fifth and then added two more in the seventh. Nathan Chong scored the final run for the Owls on a homerun to left field in the top of the ninth to bring the score to 5-1.

Forest City starting pitcher Bryan Hander got the win on the mound for the Owls going six innings giving up 1 run on four hits while striking out three. Craig Shirley and Emilio Pagan were solid for the Owls out of the bullpen.

The Blowfish travel to Asheboro on Thursday and Florence Friday before returning home to face the Gastonia Grizzlies Saturday June 9. The Columbia Blowfish are starting their 7th season at Historic Capital City Park, and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
