Forest City Owls News Release
Columbia, SC- The Owls got a veteran performance from Ryan Hander along with some timely offense for a 4-1 win over the Columbia Blowfish on Wednesday night. Hander went six innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run to pick up Forest City's third win in as many nights. The Nebraska product also turned in the team's second straight quality start.
Hander's only run allowed came in the bottom of the first inning. Federico Castagnini drew a one-out walk. He advanced to third on a bunt single by Jarrod Reed and a throwing error by Hander. Then, with Reed attempting to steal second base, Graham Saiko took a fourth ball. Owls catcher Will Chandler threw down to second base, allowing Castagnini to score. Hander would recover, getting a groundout and a flyout to end the threat.
Forest City's offense helped him out in the third inning. Nate Chong doubled with one out and advanced on a groundout by Kurt Seiders. Bryan Aanderud followed with a two-out base hit to score Chong, tying the game. Seiders drove in the go-ahead run in the 5th inning on a fielder's choice.
Chong and Aanderud helped extend things out in the late innings. Chong singled to score Dykota Spiess after a leadoff double. Chong came home on another two-out base hit by Aanderud to give the Owls a 4-1 lead. Chong put an exclamation point on his excellent day a solo homer off Adam Albers in the 9th to make it 5-1 Forest City. Craig Shirley and Emilio Pagan combined to close out the final three innings on the mount for the Owls.
Forest City returns to McNair Field tomorrow night for a contest against the Florence RedWolves. Friday night will see the Owls host a doubleheader against the Asheboro Copperheads. The first game will start at 6:30 PM and be a continuation of the game that was suspended Opening Night with the score tied 5-5 in the bottom of the 10th inning. After the conclusion of that game, there will be a twenty minute break before a full nine-inning game between the Owls and Copperheads.
