Lexington County Blowfish News Release

Florence, S.C. (May 27, 2015) - On a historic night in the heart of Lexington, South Carolina, the Lexington County Blowfish overcame an early deficit in front of a sold-out crowd to defeat the Gastonia Grizzlies 6-2 on the grand opening of Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

Gastonia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off of starting pitcher Canaan Cropper (University of South Carolina). Back-to-back singles by Blake Edwards and Dalton Skelton with nobody out put the Grizzlies in the perfect position to pounce early. An RBI single by Hayden Deal, aided by an error in the field, paced the Grizzlies to a 2-0 lead.

Cropper would have no more of that. He retired 12 batters in a row after that point. All in all, he pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Along with relievers Trevor Bradley (USC-Aiken) and Nick Jobst (USC-Aiken), the pitching staff dealt 13 total strikeouts on this night, in stark contrast to just one walk allowed.

Jobst struck out Taylor Allum and Jeremy Howell in the ninth inning to seal the victory.

J.D. Crowe's (Francis Marion) two-run double in the second inning, which scored Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) and Mitchell Price (USC-Lancaster), put the Blowfish ahead 3-2. They would not relinquish that lead.

Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) forced a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning to pad the lead even more.

Madison Stokes (University of South Carolina) also drove in a run for the Blowfish with his first hit of the season. Stokes zipped a base hit, scoring Michael Bell (University of Georgia) in the seventh inning to make it 6-2.

Over the first two games of the season, the Blowfish have outscored their opposition 11-3, and have started the season with two wins in the process.

The Blowfish will head to Gastonia to finish the back half of a home-and-home series with the Grizzlies. That game will start at 7:05 p.m. A live broadcast is available on the radio home of the Blowfish, Z93.1 FM The Lake.
