MOLINE, Ill. (February 12, 2013) - Jon Booras scored two goals and Pier-Olivier Pelletier made 32 saves as the Bloomington Blaze defeated the host Quad City Mallards 4-1 Tuesday night. Tuesday evening also saw Mallard alternate captain Shayne Toporowski play his one thousandth career regular season game.
The Blaze never looked back after building a 3-1 lead in the first period. Dan Barczuck buried a rebound to open the scoring at 2:50 of the first. Mike Hellyer backhanded the tying goal home from the slot just over a minute later, but, at 12:41, Booras's drive from the high slot put the Blaze back on top for good. Bloomington's advantage widened to 3-1 when Tom Boudreau finished off a 3-on-2 rush at 17:31.
Booras scored his second goal and the Blaze's fourth on a two man advantage late in the second period. Booras buried a one timer just nine seconds before the end of the 5-on-3. Pelletier was at his busiest in the second, turning aside all 15 Mallard shots he faced in the middle frame.
