Green Bay Blizzard News Release
The phenomenal season that the Green Bay Blizzard has had just keeps getting better. The af2 League Office has announced their annual league awards, and for the second straight year the Blizzard is tops in at least one category.
This year the Blizzard took home the top prize in the "Best Commercial" category. They won for their spot featuring a TV studios on-air and support staff getting to know Arena Football and learning to "work" with the Blizzard players, the Freeze Dance Team and Bruiser, the team mascot. The memorable spot featured Sports Anchors getting ready to go on the air to cheers of "Make-up! Make-up!" from Bruiser and a Dance Team member, and a Production Assistant getting blasted by a Blizzard player in the hallway while delivering tapes.
The commercial also made minor celebrities out of several Blizzard personnel:
- DLS Asa Francis, who stalked the TV studio hallways looking for slow-moving employees and made timely deliveries of shot sheets to the on-air personalities
- Equipment Assistant Jason Derenne, who played the PA who didn't move fast enough for Francis' taste and wound up getting rocked
- Marketing Intern and former Freeze Dance Team member Sara Stevens, whose cheers and assistance in the studio brightened the day for everyone
- Bruiser, the Coolest Mascot in Arena Football, whose strong and silent presence inspired everyone to award-winning performances
The Blizzard was also the recipient of an award in the "Best Promotional Item" category, winning 3rd place for their Oneida Casino "Brian Noble Talking Key Chain." The item, which was made in the image of Blizzard President and former Green Bay Packers linebacker Brian Noble (in uniform!), featured a thank you message from Noble to the fans for helping to make 2006 the greatest Blizzard season ever. The Key Chains were given away at the final regular season game, when the Blizzard clinched their first-ever East Division Title with a victory over the Louisville Fire.
This marks the second year in a row that the Blizzard has garnered a pair of awards. In 2005, the Blizzard won 1st place in the "Best Promotional Item" category for their Oneida Casino "Old School" Replica Leather Helmets, and The Freeze Dance Team took home 3rd place in the "Best Dance Team" category.
