Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Ashwaubenon, WI - In this Week Six matchup, the Sioux Falls Storm traveled to Green Bay to take on the Blizzard. Sioux Falls came in looking to get their first win of the season, but the Blizzard were too much on Friday night. Green Bay got their third win in a row, beating the Storm 48-35.

This game started with the Green Bay offense taking the field first, with QB Max Meylor back under center for the Blizzard. Meylor faked the defense with a read option and walked into the end zone to put the Blizzard up 6-0. Sioux Falls responded quickly as mobile quarterback Billy Hall weaved through the Green Bay defense to put Sioux Falls up 7-6.

Turnovers were a big part early on and throughout the rest of the game. In the first quarter, wide receiver Lowell Patron fumbled on the five-yard line and Sioux Falls recovered. On the very next play, however, Billy Hall threw an interception to linebacker Jaylan Alexander. Patron made up for his fumble, as he caught a touchdown to put the Blizzard up 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.

To start the second quarter, there was another turnover. This time, a muffed snap by Sioux Falls was recovered by the Blizzard. The Blizzard, not being able to score off the turnover, turned the ball over on downs. Sioux Falls took that opportunity to go down and score as Hall hit wide receiver Kentrez Bell to knot it up at 14-14 with 6:06 left in the half. After a good drive for Green Bay, they were able to take the lead, as the Blizzard executed a tush push to go up 21-14 with 51 seconds left in the half. Green Bay was able to get the ball once more before halftime, as the Storm fumbled again. Green Bay's field goal attempt by kicker Andrew Mevis was blocked, ending the first half.

To start the second half, there was another botched snap by Sioux Falls and Green Bay was able to recover it. The Blizzard turned this turnover into points, as Patron, who ended his night with six receptions for 104 yards, got in for his second touchdown of the night. On the next drive, Sioux Falls brought out a jumbo package, and defensive lineman Claude Davis caught a five-yard pass from Hall to put the Storm within one score at 28-21. The Blizzard then used a nine-minute drive to their advantage, as Meylor completed a pass to Demetrius Moore, giving Green Bay a two-score lead at 35-28.

Until the seven-minute mark in the game, the fourth quarter was defined by back-and-forth scoring between these rivals. Sioux Falls would score on their first possession, followed by a Blizzard touchdown on their first possession. Sioux Falls would answer back with a score of their own. Mevis was able to ice the game, making field goals on back-to-back possessions for the Blizzard to seal the victory 48-35.

Next week, Green Bay (3-1) is at home to take on the Iowa Barnstormers (0-3) for their second matchup of the year, as Green Bay celebrates Yooper Night. The Blizzard took the first matchup during Week Two, meaning Iowa comes in looking to even up the series.

Sioux Falls (0-4) hosts the Massachusetts Pirates (4-0) in Fargo, ND, as this is also their second matchup with each other this season.
