Blizzard Sign Two Defensive Players of the Year

Green Bay, WI - The Green Bay Blizzard and Head Coach Rik Richards are excited to announce the signing of two more players for the 2011 season. Defensive Lineman Greg Terrell will be entering his second season with the Blizzard. Joining him is fellow Memphis Tiger Linebacker Greg Jackson. At Memphis, both Jackson and Terrell were named 2008 and 2009 Player of the Year respectively.

Coach Richards commented that "Signing two Defensive Players of the Year from a major Division I school is a huge step for our defense." Richards went on to say "Every guy we sign is important to our team, but signing Terrell and Jackson is a big step towards the type of team make-up we are looking for."

DL Greg Terrell (6'5 265lbs.): Terrell returns to the Blizzard as a prominent member of the defensive line. Terrall played in the Blizzard's final three games of the 2010 season recording 10 total tackles, with two sacks and a pass breakup. Terrell expressed his feelings saying, "I am very excited about the upcoming season, and the team will be very strong this year. We have several guys from last year's defense coming back. Again, I am very excited to be in Green Bay and playing for the Blizzard."

In his 2009 season with the Memphis Tigers, Terrell played in 11 of 12 games with 11 starts at left end on the defensive line. Terrell was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year. He ranked tied for third on the team in sacks (2) and tied for third in Tackles for Loss (5.5 for 22 yards). Averaging 2.6 tackles per game Terrell totaled 29 tackles with 16 solo stops with two pass breakups.

SS/LB Greg Jackson (6'2 225lbs): In 2008, Jackson was a 2008 All-Conference USA Honorable Mention pick and was named the Defensive Player of the Year at the team banquet. In 2009, Jackson played in nine of 12 games with nine starts at outside linebacker. Jackson was named by his teammates as one of three permanent captains for the year. He ranked first on the team in fumble recoveries (2), second in tackles for loss (6.5-31) and tied for first in forced fumbles (3). He was third on the team in solo tackles (33) and finished fourth on the team in total tackles (56). Jackson made at least one Tackle for Loss in his past eight of 12 games and totaled 13 in the span for a loss of 64 yards. He averaged 6.2 tackles per game and made at least seven tackles in four of the nine games. Jackson also had one sack, one interception and two pass breakups. Jackson had this to say about playing in Green Bay, "I am happy to get an opportunity to play again. I had a good college career and I am looking at this as a great opportunity to move to the next level. I am ready to get our there and prove myself and help the team anyway I can. Football is my life and I am not ready to stop playing."
