
Blizzard Re-Sign Rb Verboncouer

Green Bay, WI: The Green Bay Blizzard and Head Coach Rik Richards are excited to announce that Running Back Andrew Verboncouer has re-signed with the Blizzard for the 2012 season. Verboncouer, a Green Bay native, will be entering his second season as a professional athlete with the Blizzard. "When Andrew was healthy he was a very versatile part of our offense. We look forward to him having a breakout year in 2012," Coach Richards said.
In 2011, Verboncouer saw action in five games while hampered by a knee injury. None the less, Verboncouer was still able to carry the ball 30 times for 50 yards and four touchdowns. What is more impressive was by season's end, he was third on the team in receiving with 15 catches for 130 yards and one touchdown. Verboncouer also showed his versatility on special teams by recording eight tackles in five games.
Verboncouer attended Green Bay East High School where he did not play football until his senior year. Verboncouer was a walk-on at Winona State University (Winona, MN) in 2005 where he ran for 27 yards on three carries. In 2006, Verboncouer rushed for 89 yards on 18 carries. In 2007, Verboncouer emerged as the lead-blocker for running back Alex Weise, who amassed close to 1500 yards rushing on the season. In 2008, Verboncouer started at fullback and played a major role in Winona State's scoring attack. He scored 19 rushing TDs, while rushing for 634 yards on 107 carries. He caught 10 passes for 106 yards and scored one touchdown. He was selected All-Conference Honorable Mention Running Back and he was voted Team Offensive MVP. Verboncouer was rated No. 5 in NCAA Division II scoring (11.45 points per game) and tied for No. 1 in conference touchdowns (20).
