Green Bay Blizzard News Release
For those fans in attendance at the Green Bay Blizzard game on Friday night at U.S. Cellular Field at the Resch Center, it was hard to believe what was happening on the field. The passes were crisper, the routes were sharper and the defense never played so tough. The Green Bay Blizzard team, who just 11 days ago looked slow and unprepared against an overmatched Spokane Shock team, appeared tonight to have all the makings for a championship caliber team. In front of 6,334 screaming Blizzard fans, the Green Bay Blizzard defeated the Manchester Wolves 72-31 in their best offensive output of the season. The Blizzard who won on the road last week versus the Tennessee Valley Vipers extended their season record to 2-1.
The Blizzard were the first to get points on the board with a touchdown pass from newly appointed starter and Wisconsin native QB Shane Adler (19-32, 6 TD's) hit WR Steve Gonzalez (10-104 and 2 TD's) who played last season for Manchester, for an 18 yard scoring strike with just under two minutes gone in the game. The scoring however did not stop there as WR/LB Anthony Crissinger-Hill intercepted a Justin Rummel pass and took it back 23 yards for the Blizzard touchdown.
After a Manchester field goal, the Blizzard were back on the board with another touchdown pass from Adler to his UW-LaCrosse teammate WR Scott Burnoski (6-115 and 4 TD's) on an incredible 28 yard touchdown reception that put the Blizzard up 20-3 to end the second quarter
In the second quarter it was much of the same for the Blizzard as WR Quorey Payne (4-24 and 1 TD) and defensive standout DL Joe Sykes each scored to extend the Blizzard lead to 36-10 at the halftime break.
As the team headed to the locker rooms for halftime, more teams entered the field to show their toughness. Ten area high school football teams took to the field to prove the strength in the 3rd Annual J.J. Keller High School High School Tug-O-War Challenge. Oconto High School, the two-time defending champions in the event, took their third straight title and the rights to the Bradley Williams Memorial Traveling Trophy and in a great show of respected presented the trophy back to Joel Williams, father of the late Bradley Williams.
When the 2nd half commenced, although a quarterback change was for Manchester, the results on the field were the same. The Blizzard outscored the Wolves 36-21 with Burnoski leading the way with three more touchdowns which included an unbelievable catch off the wall which earned him the Cutters Catch of the Game award for the night.
This Blizzard team has all the makings to reach the American Conference Championship game for the third consecutive year. To make the ArenaCup the Blizzard will have to play each game, home and away the way they played tonight.
