Dusters blow away the Wranglers with another win at home

AMARILLO, TEXAS- The Dusters hosted the Austin Wranglers on April 12, 2008 for Faith & Family night. The Dusters won another one at home, defeating the Wranglers 65-40.

The Dusters got on the board quick with a 7 yd touchdown run by Donte Newsome. Wranglers QB answered with a 2 yd run for an Austin touchdown. Amarillo came back with two more touchdowns in the first quarter, one being a 24 yd pass from QB Julian Reese to Steve Bergeski and another from a fumble recovery by DE Jared Williams.

The Dusters came out strong again in the 2nd quarter with a 17 yard pass from Julian Reese to WR Art Membrilla. The Wranglers rallied for another touchdown when QB Matt Schneider connected with WR John Roberson on a 31 yd touchdown pass. Dusters LB Donte Newsome came up with another touchdown run to finish out the half keeping the Dusters on top going into halftime.

The second half started off with another Dusters touchdown, a 16 yd reception by WR Jim Lukowiak from QB Julian Reese. Wranglers QB Matt Schneider found WR John Roberson for another Austin touchdown in the middle of the third quarter. Dusters LB Donte Newsome was unstoppable tonight, coming up with another touchdown run late in the third quarter.

In the fourth, Dusters DE Jared Williams sacked Wranglers QB Matt Schneider for a loss and a fourth down attempt. The Wranglers scored on the very next play with a touchdown reception by... The Wranglers recovered a fumble on the kickoff to get the ball back and scored quickly to bring score to within two touchdowns. After another score from each team, the Wranglers lined up for another short kick and Dusters DB Don Hooks picked it up and ran it in for another Dusters touchdown, sealing the fate for the Wranglers.

Schutt Offensive Player of the Game, Amarillo's Julian Reese, threw for 245 yards with 4 touchdowns. Donte Newsome was awarded the U.S. Ironman of the Game after his great plays on both sides of the ball for the Dusters. He ended the night with three touchdown runs. Val Stinson was awarded the ADT Defensive Player of the Game.

John Roberson of Austin was awarded the Cutters Catch of the game with his touchdown reception in the second quarter. Roberson ended the night with four touchdowns.

The Dusters will be on the road for the next two weeks, traveling to Bossier - Shreveport to take on the Battlewings. The Dusters return home on May 3rdfor the War on I-40 against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgs.
