Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Green Bay, WI (April 9, 2014) - The Green Bay Blizzard will be honoring a local volunteer and football enthusiast, Alex Christon, as an honorary Team captain on April 18 at 6:00pm for Super and Local Hero night.
Alex became a part of the Blizzard family when he volunteered with a variety of game day duties with the Blizzard, most recently helping as a member of the Blizzard Power team. "He was such a value to the Power Team. His positivity and enthusiasm for everything he did spread to each member of the promo team and to the fans who interacted with him," said Kaitlyn Fitzgerald, Director of Communications, "I was blessed to work with him every game and see that big smile every time we took the field."
Despite being born with birth defects that limited his physical abilities, Alex achieved many goals by his mid-twenties. He secured his own apartment, used public transportation to get to work every day, volunteered regularly with local sports teams and was the equipment manager for Preble and West high schools at one time.
Last year, Alex's brain collapsed, requiring him to learn how to walk and talk again. He now faces the challenge of having to start over and rebuild his life. He has been in rehab facilities in Milwaukee and Appleton. On April 9th Fosber America held a benefit for Alex. Blizzard players and coaches went out and showed their support for this young man who has come along way since his injury. His determination, positive attitude and community support helps get through the tough times. Like his page on Facebook "fightwithalex" (one word) and come out and show your support for this local hero on April 18 as the Green Bay Blizzard take on the Billings Wolves at the Aurora BayCare Freeze Field at the Resch Center. Kick off is at 6:00pm.
