
Axemen drop second game in a row to Fever 52-42

Bemidji, Minn. (Shooting Star Casino Field at the Sanford Center) - The Bemidji Axemen dropped their second game in a row to the Tri-Cities Fever 54-35 The Axemen fall to 2-4 while the Fever improve to 4-2 on the season, the Fever are still in second place in the Intense Conference because the Nebraska Danger defeated the Cedar Rapids Titans 52-42.
Fever quarterback Houston Lillard was injured on the second play of the game which led to Michael Box leading the Fever throughout the game. Box was 7-15 for 113 yards and one touchdown. Andrew Pierce led the Fever in rushing with 57 yards and five rushing touchdowns. The leading receiver for the Fever was Steven Whitehead who brought in four passes for 82 yards and one touchdown. The Tri-Cities defense was also clicking tonight by allowing 35 points. The Fever offense finished with 213 total yards (125 passing, 88rushing) while kicker Brady Breeson was 2-4.
Quarterback EJ White was replaced late in the third quarter by Ryan Balentine who went 10-19 for 94 passing yards and one touchdown. Balentine also led the team in rushing with 26 yards and one rushing touchdowns. The leading receiver for the Axemen was Josh Jarboe who had 84 receiving yards on eight receptions and one touchdown. Mulku Kalokoh returned another kickoff for a 55-yard touchdown, his third of the season, while rushing for 23 yards and one touchdown. Middle linebacker Jory Johnson had a strong game with 3.5 tackles, one interception, one tipped pass that resulted in an interception and had a one handed interception taken away after a fellow defender received an illegal hands to the face penalty. The Bemidji offense finished with 228 total yards (170 passing, 58 rushing) while the defense forced two interceptions.
The Axemen will host the Cedar Rapids Titans next Saturday at 7 o'clock p.m. while the Fever return home to host the Sioux Falls Storm on Friday.
