Minnesota Axemen Signee Melvin Taveras
(Minnesota Axemen)

Bemidji, MN- The Minnesota Axemen have signed Defensive Back Melvin Taveras.

Taveras (SDSU, 5'11, 185 lbs.) signs with the Axemen after participating in mini-camp with the Minnesota Vikings this past June. Taveras played two seasons at South Dakota State University, where he was fourth in tackles his senior season along with leading the team with three interceptions. Axemen General Manager/Head Coach Richard Davis is excited to see what Taveras has to offer, "I'm really excited about Melvin, he's got great cover skills. He is a fluid enough athlete to play corner, with the physicality to play safety. The scouts I talked to said he held his own when he was in camp with the Vikings, so I look forward to seeing what he can do here in an Axemen uniform."

The Minnesota Axemen are a third-year franchise in the Indoor Football League and will be in the North Division of the United Conference, which includes the Cedar Rapids Titans and the Green Bay Blizzard. The Axemen are lead this season by new General Manager/Head Coach Richard Davis, and look forward to the upcoming season starting February 2016.
