Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Green Bay, WI - The Green Bay Blizzard hosted the Bismarck Bucks in their season opener on Sunday. The Blizzard fell at home 23-26.
The Blizzard were the first to get on the board with Dez Stewart catching a 15-yard pass from Torrance Gibson. John Brunner from the Bucks was able to tie the game with just over three minutes left in the first quarter after receiving an 11-yard pass from Tahj Tolbert. Ending the scoring for the first quarter. Heading into the second quarter the defense on both sides prevented any scoring until the seventh minute when Nick Jaworski made a 29-yard field goal, giving the Blizzard the lead once again. That lead did not last long as just three minutes later John Brunner scored his second touchdown of the night. James Brown made a huge play on the extra point where he was able to block the kick, preventing the Bucks from extending their lead any further. Just as time ran out on the first half the Bucks kicker Edward Vander was able to make a field goal. Leaving the score at the end of the first half 16-10 in favor of the Bismarck Bucks.
Starting the second half both team's defenses were on a roll, preventing either team from scoring until there were just under four minutes left in the third quarter. Rob Brown from the Bucks was able to catch a 28-yard pass and score a touchdown, extending the team's lead to thirteen points. The Blizzard were not going to let them get any further ahead as Dez Stewart scored his second touchdown of the night with a minute and a half left in the quarter. This touchdown put the Blizzard in striking distance as they were now only down by seven points. The first five minutes of the fourth quarter were quiet until Edward Vander kicked a 31-yard field goal with nine minutes left in the game. During the fourth quarter, Jordan Jones from the Blizzard went on to get two consecutive sacks, preventing the Bucks from making any further progress. In their last drive of the game, the Blizzard made one last touchdown as the clock hit zero. The game ended with the Bismarck Bucks coming out with a 26-23 win over the Green Bay Blizzard.
