Blizzard Fall Short to Defending Champions
March 11, 2019 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Green Bay Blizzard News Release
The Green Bay Blizzard traveled to Des Moines to play the Iowa Barnstormers on Saturday night. It was the first home game of the season for Iowa and the pregame festivities included hanging their 2018 Championship Banner.
Penalties and red zone fumbles contributed to the worst offensive showing in Blizzard history as the Barnstormers defeated the Blizzard 41 to 3.
The Blizzard record falls to 1 and 2, while the Barnstormers are 2 and 0.
Green Bay quarter back Lenorris Footman could not duplicate his league Offense Player of the Week performance as the Barnstormers defensive strategy to blitz early and often kept Green Bay out of the end zone.
The Blizzard defense held the Iowa offense to only 16 points through the third quarter but the Barnstormers erupted for 25 points in the 4th quarter to send the fans home happy.
Iowa defensive coordinator and former Blizzard coach, Chuck Miller commented after the game that they felt that they could throw Footman off his game with blitzing often and taking advantage of their skillful defensive backs. The Iowa defensive backs played man to man coverage most of the game.
Both The Blizzard and the Barnstormers have a bye this week.
